Twelve reasons to read the Bible everyday

by Arnold Pent III

All verses from New American Standard Bible

1.  The Lord commanded it.  “Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to all.  Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.” 1 Timothy 4:15,16

2.  We are to be fruitful.  “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:4,5

3.  We need to know doctrine.  “Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’” John 8:31,32

4.  To be clean.  “"You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” John 15: 3

5.  So our prayers answered.  “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.” John 15:7

6.  To be successful in life.  “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” Joshua 1:8

7.  To keep from backsliding.  “The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip.” Psalm 37:31

8.  To be fed from God’s Word.  “"And He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.” Deuteronomy 8:3

9.  To Grow in Scriptural Maturity.  “Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation.” 1 Peter 2:2

10.  I want understanding.  “I have more insight than all my teachers, For Thy testimonies are my meditation.” Psalm 119:99

11.  To really live.  “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” John 6:63

12.  To be thoroughly equipped to every good work.  “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16,17.
